My first pick was organic rosemary, perfect for roasting lamb, one of my favourite meats. Alongside this, I decanted some organic black pepper, excited to try out my new pestle and mortar, a thoughtful birthday gift. Grinding spices felt like a small but important step in my journey with cooking and flavour. Everyone’s experience is unique; while a pestle and mortar might seem basic to some, it felt quite advanced and special to me.

Next, I discovered the vibrant colour of organic cayenne pepper, which I carefully transferred into a brown paper bag, thrilled by its rich hue. Then came oregano, a monumental herb in my health journey and a staple for my Italian cooking adventures, its properties are truly impressive. Lastly, I chose paprika. I still remember its smoky, deep flavour from the first time I used it in homemade buttermilk paprika chicken. Each spice has brought something new to my kitchen and cooking explorations.

We often gravitate towards spices and herbs we know well, staying within the comfort zones that have brought us success. This familiar ground feels safe, but true magic happens when we move beyond it. Cooking with intention and love is about reconnecting with what’s real and simple, it doesn’t require packets, stabilisers, or artificial flavours. Instead, we have the power to create delicious, wholesome meals using just the ingredients we trust and cherish.

Walking out with paper bags tucked under my arm, I carried more than ingredients. I carried a plan for small rituals of intent.  The refill shop felt like coming home: not to a single past, but to a way of living that honours craft, patience and the quiet pleasure of good, honest food.

My journey began by embracing this philosophy, and now I invite you to join me in starting fresh. Together, we’ll explore the beauty of home cooking filled with purpose and passion. Welcome to Kitchen Witchery. We are a growing community, abundant in knowledge and warmth. Come along with us and be part of something truly special.

With love always,

Katy
